1) All Golf GTIs before Mk4 and the Mk4 VR6 GTI
2) Peugeot 205/206 GTI
3) Pre-Mk7 Fiesta ST
4) This cuts a but past 2004 but the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS
5) Geo Storm GSi (0-60 in 7.1 seconds, it's a hot hatch)
6) Mazda MX-3
7) Matra Murena-Talbot
8) Talbot Sunbeam Lotus
9) Renault Clio Williams/Renaultsport Clio/Clio Cup
10) Renault Twingo Cup
11) Citroen C2/C4/Xsara VTS
Some are less "hatch" than others but I believe all of these are FF hatch-like compacts at minimum with NA power.

yeah, I should have done a better search to fulfill the "hot" descriptor. There have been several fun escorts over the years.

Honestly i think an RS2000 4x4 of the last model could've been a fun quattro-like machine. For snow and all you know :D

Would you call the Pulsar a hatchback? I'd say it's more of a coupe. But if we're counting a mid-engine Clio as a hot hatch, who knows.

If you call a "compact 2-door car with a lifting rear hatch" a hatchback, then yes, it is. But then so is a Mustang II or 240Z, technically.
I think the more 'strict' definition has been that it has to be a FWD 2-door car based on a sedan platform, with a transverse mounted engine.

Almost all hot hatches before 2004 didn't have a turbo, and most manufacturers offered a few. You can post almost everything here.

I don't think the FWD-part has anything to with being an 'hatchback'? Otherwise the brilliant Talbot Lotus Sunbeam isn't no longer a hot-hatch (which it clearly is when looking at it and knowing the specifications):

I don't agree either, but the modern connotation sort of took over when everyone stopped making RWD hatchbacks in the 90s.

Well, some cars fit right into a single category, others blur the borders. Because it doesn't have an entirely separate boot, you can argue this is a hatch, but I take one look at it and say that's clearly a coupe shape.
The Scirocco and 944 are definitely coupes too, even though they have a hatch-like shape. I'm confused...

Not really a "hatch" just a large opening for the trunk.
